The Loft Gallery has opened with this years exhibition Modern Medieval Madness in the Trophy Room.
With two exhibitions in one, this year brings something quite special.
In Modern Medieval Madness Toy Murchie has taken Medieval illuminations and 'pushed' them into the modern world. With humour at the forefront, we find scribes using iPads, lute players strumming theremins and astronomers flying drones.
In the Trophy Room...
Ladies and gentlemen of discerning taste and inquisitive minds, allow me the honour of introducing to you a modern marvel, a paragon of curiosity and courage in the grand tradition of the intrepid explorers and natural philosophers of the nineteenth century – Ms Fanny Codswallop-Beagle
In this era where many lament the decline of the adventurous spirit and the pursuit of enlightenment through firsthand observation, Fanny Codswallop-Beagle stands as a resplendent beacon of hope. Her name is synonymous with Charles Darwin’s ship of exploration and a nose that can sniff out anything.
With the grace of an aristocrat and the tenacity of a seasoned adventurer, Ms Codswallop-Beagle traverses the globe, her well-worn boots carrying her to the farthest reaches of our planet. Her insatiable appetite for knowledge is matched only by her reverence for the diverse and mysterious creatures she encounters and catalogues along her path. Whether scaling the craggy peaks of the Himalayas in pursuit of the rare Yakki or tunnelling through the dense jungles of Mexico and Central America in search of the Gonzo Gobbler, her explorations are a testament to the indomitable spirit of curiosity that drives her.
This exhibition, with a wink and a chuckle, brings together her most recent finds.
